Anyone ever tried making their own dye for leather sheaths?

Im interested to give it a go but am unsure how or whether it would work!

Ordinary boot polish can dye natural veg tanned leather.

I've done that and with some coffee and/or tea added in the past.

Remember one thing, you can add to the colour but it's near impossible to take it out.

Iron oxide in vinegar makes a superb stain.
Depending on the amount of iron oxide in the brew you can get anything from grey/green or indeterminate "dark" to a true full on black.
Just rot some wire wool in a bottle of Sarsons - no mess no fuss!
It only works on Veg tan!
