I'm off to the Canary Islands in June for two weeks with the family. We will be in a hotel this year and so opportunities will be limited - (self catering villas are great because you can please yourself). I plan to take paracord and a knot book to practice tying and I have a coarse jigsaw blade in my trusty Gerber multi-tool as I won't be taking anything more serious. I thought I might be able to find some olive wood to bring home for carving but wondered what other bushcrafting is realistic on a family holiday to the sun.
I take telescopic fishing kit with me but would welcome any suggestions from you fine folks.

Thanks.

Not sure its exactly 'bushcraft' but if its gran canaria make sure you get to palmitos nature park , good flora and fauna and a brilliant birds of prey show.
If its tenerife make sure to get up mount teide , a good chance to see a relitively safe volcano, walk the whole way for the best experience but with kids and wife the cable car is still a good day out.

hope its a little help

Thanks mate. It's Lanzarote this time. If you go, be sure to visit Timanfaya National Park. I went a afew years ago and there's good demonstrations of the active nature of the island - they cook over a hole in the ground with the natural heat and create huge steam bursts by pouring water down cracks in the rock.

Maybe I will give the shoreline a look, not sure what for though.

Not Bushcraft realated and you may already know this but watch out for doggy electronic shops. I bought a digital camera there (Lanzarote). When I left the shop I texted my brother to check out the camera on the web. He got back to tell me that there was a warning out from UK police about counterfeit cameras . I then realised that I 'd been had. There was no proper paperwork with the camera. I went back to the shop to get my money back , they told me that there was no way I could get a refund as I had paid by VISA. After a long time argueing I agreed to take a replacement .This time I made sure the guarantee paper work was filled in . They also change the setting on the good cameras so that the picture doesn't seem as good. When I returned home my Visa company were not intrested in hearing anything about it. One last comment ,the prices on the camera boxes were way over the top. I found that I could get the same products at home for less money and none of the hassle. Sorry its not about bushcraft and the next time I will text my brother before I buy.
