hi guys just wondering would a wooden sheath be any good ?

Just opened the bag to take stock and get a photo of what I have.
I must have totally gotten muddled :eek: There's one long pine knife sheath blank, and some smaller oak ones. Not 100% certain on that, but it's not pine and it looks like oak to me.
That's a problem because oak will react with iron to create a patina on a knife blade. It's a kind of protective layer (used to be done deliberately) and it's still in vogue with reenactors, for whom these blanks were originally intended.

The walnut pieces....from furniture or flooring :dunno: are offcuts that were going to be burnt until my friend rescued them. Tidy, clean and stable but not 'stabilized' iimmc.
