Just opened the bag to take stock and get a photo of what I have.
I must have totally gotten muddled There's one long pine knife sheath blank, and some smaller oak ones. Not 100% certain on that, but it's not pine and it looks like oak to me.
That's a problem because oak will react with iron to create a patina on a knife blade. It's a kind of protective layer (used to be done deliberately) and it's still in vogue with reenactors, for whom these blanks were originally intended.
The walnut pieces....from furniture or flooring are offcuts that were going to be burnt until my friend rescued them. Tidy, clean and stable but not 'stabilized' iimmc.
