Basically I'm based in aldershot and was wondering if anyone could help, I'm not sure where to have my first adventure I don't want to travel too far but I don't want to be constantly bumped into by dog walkers. Does anyone know of any good locations in the south east?

Hello there, I'm relatively new to bushcraft myself, having just under two years. I can tell you what I started with, and once you get acquainted, it becomes an obsession. The OS map. This gives you a comfort And a good confidence boost. Perhaps plan a route, and for the time being slowly add weight to your rucksack, just to get some miles under your feet and a feeling for what you're in for. Don't forget binoculars! 60 % of my outings started with seeing whats around. And then when you feel more confident, your first night out under the stars......

All the best

I would recommend going to the Sussex bushcraft group meet they are a great bunch and have a superb site, lots of different people who travel from all over.

+1 for the Sussex group. I've been going to meets for over a year now. Bring something to sleep in, sleep under, to cook with and sit on. There's some great banter under the communal parachute and a good fire if enough wood gets collected by everyone. As the days are getting longer now there will be more time for projects, and you will always find someone carving, bow drill fire lighting or something like that. We are very lucky to have some bushcraft experts who come along from time to time and they are very generous with their skills. So far I've been able to perfect my bow drill, knit a net and carve plenty of spoons.

Now in away you have already started cos you have joined the greatest bushcrafting resource ever so welcome to the forum but i understand your need to get out there so do as others have suggested and get your self to the Sussex bushcraft meet

Thanks all I'm quite experienced in staying out and walking with weight but not so confident in being self sufficient while out on my own because in the army food and water were usually brought along...
