Yes, we do have Alder here, will give it a try.

Andyn's advice is good, Alder will work well. Best to cut some and let it dry for a few days to give yourself the best chance of success.

We were under canvas last night and I scored a straight Alder branch, which will now accompany me to sauna to help it dry out
