I found an old gas bottle lying in a hedge at the side of the road today and fancy having a go at cutting it in half to make a fire bowl. First I have to make it safe to attack with a grinder so need to remove the fitting on top. Can any of you folks tell me if these fittings are right or left handed threads cos this fitting is solid and I dont want to belt it with a hammer until I know for sure which way it loosens. If memory serves all fittings for flammable gas ie Acetylene are left handed threads but is that only for connections or is it for the bottle integral fittings too? You folks who have made these things, how did you get the top connectors off to empty the bottle? Any help would be gratefully accepted.

I think all fuel-gas fittings are left handed, so it stands to reason that the spigot thread is as well

Start off by winding the tap all the way open and leave it outside untill you're ready to start work on it

Don't forget to post pics
