Firstly apologies if this is the wrong place to post this!
A colleague's Father is a great bloke and does a lot of work for a charity he is close to. As a means of raising some cash for the charity he collects old tools for me and I give him an extra fair price for them (it saves me having to trawl boot sales etc and is for a good cause). I have had chisels and recently received a box full of old planes and shaves, all of which now have a lovely new home
Also in the box was an old Robert Sorby drawknife with the kangaroo works stamp on, so I was well chuffed with it.
It turns out this was my colleagues Grandfathers favourite tool, and he used to turn a bit of cherry wood now and again because the family worked on an old cherry orchard. This cherry orchard left a mark on all the family - holidays at the orchard working, hot cherry pies etc.
My colleagues father is still willing to give this drawknife to me for a fair price, so the charity can benefit, which I thought was really nice. So I have given him some dosh, and promised I will take photos of the refurb of the knife.
In addition I would like to turn a little momento for the family, on my pole lathe, but I would like to use cherry wood to maintain the link between the family and their Grandad.
Does anyone have any green cherry wood available for me to buy from them for turning please? I will obviously pay for p&p too.
I guess I only need a piece 18" long and minimum of 4" diameter depending how straight it is.
Any suggestions or offers would be kindly considered.
Thanks, (and apologies for the essay, but I thought it was a nice tale worth sharing)
