Hi Clackamas, I'm from Yorkshire. We too have a coastline, valleys, a few biggish lumps, lots of heather moorland - but we don't do deserts, I'm afraid; far too much wet stuff falling out of the sky!
The US is a place I'd like to visit. I meet a lot of americans at work, and so I've hear a fair bit about trips into some of the real wilderness still left there, something which we don't really have in our crowded little island. That's not to say there aren't some beautiful spaces - there are - but not on the same scale, where you could lose yourself for days if you felt like it.
