I'm new so don't want to cause any upset ! Aren't Helle sometimes (known to be) a bit on the brittle side with heat treat / temper ? I'm thinking of the laminate blades here primarily they make less of now I think, also they've moved more towards mono steel knives..... Is the 'love' of basic stick tang knives like Viking - historical appeal, or low price ? I don't get it at all, so a genuine curiosity please ??

They are not low price....but the appeal is the style, Helle make a nice knife. Now in my case it seemed to be a fracture error

I would have said that Buck knives are brittle, not the Helle ones.
The Buck ones really keep a sharp edge, but, well, it can come at a cost.

I use a Helle all the time. A little Helle Polar. It's my second one, the first one delaminated on an overgrown tree tie. Helle replaced it very promptly.

Stick tang knives have a long provenance.......and they're often lighter enough that they're not an effort to use.

Each to their own, but exposed metal in a handle is often not desirable.
