been thinking about a mod for the hobo stove, involving the use of copper, but have since heard that it can give off some nasty fumes when heated, anyone know how hot it would have to be for this to happen

not sure about copper giving off nasty fumes, but I know brass does because it contains zinc... same with galvanised metal..

Well copper has been used for cooking pots for years (even trendy modern saucepans use 'copper bottoms' as a selling point).... there will be a limit to how much heat it can stand before softening / melting though - what part of the stove are you planning on using it for?

also if you are thinking of heating the copper to make it easier to form, i works opposite to steel

ie heat, then sudden cool in bath of water will soften it (anneal it???)
heat and allow to cool gradually will make harder

hope this helps
