Ooh awesome. I am heading to Scotland next year, so this might prove useful (or at least interesting). I imagine if you search enough online you'll find a way of viewing it!

There's an informative and entertaining book called 'Midges In Scotland' by George Hendry (1989). Not a massive tome, just nice to dip in and out of while out camping. It's amazing what people have tried to eradicate them or just keep them at bay! The front cover illustration says it all really:
