Well, I guess besides the difference in build quality, the main difference is the maximum filtration capacity.

The MSR is quoted at upto 2000 liters, the Katadyn will go 50,000 liters before the ceramic filter requires changing. I believe that both are capable of filtering out anything greater than 2 microns in size, so like everything else, you pays your money, you takes your choice.
