Hello folks.

Noticed these 10 X 50 binos' at Lidls......£9.99 :Wow:

http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20061207.p.Binoculars.ar6

Thought you folks might like to know. Saw them at my local store. Looked well made, Being rubber armoured, small and large lens caps, 'Bresser' brand name, blue coated lens.....

But being cheap, they could be tat for all I know. I was sorely tempted, but thought I'd run it past you guys first.

Any thoughts?

Your not going to get swarovski quality for a tenner!
Come to think of it, you'll not buy a Tasco for £10 :)

They were selling them for £14.99 some months back and were regarded as a bargain then. I passed by Lidl and had a quick look, they were heavier than I expected and slightly bigger too. Would make a nice car binos couldnt justify the weight size over my regular little pair of 10X25s for hiking or taking along just incase.

There's a quick review of them I found which is very favourable.

Hmmm maybe Ill go back and get a pair to keep in my glovebox.

The spotting scope for £99 looks like it might be a real bargain too, http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20061207.p.Telescope_with_Tripod.ar2
There's more info on this on Breeser-Meades own sites http://www.bresseroptics.co.uk/details.php?id=363

Thanks for the feedback guys, and for the links Glen.

I must admit, I second the reveiwers impression of quality in the binos.

Like Hunter-Zero I was thinking surely they would cost more if they were really any good.

That said,
I'm a long way from being able to afford top notch optics so as long as they're not junk I may just get them for the cheap and cheerful factor.
They can live in in the boot of the car/back of the cupboard for that odd occassion like with the other rarely used kit  :p

Ps, the scope also looked tasty, but as soon as I saw the price I had to put it out of my skint mind :(

Cheers,

Moose

I went out at lunchtime and my local branch had about 100 pairs so I brought a pair and went out to test them, very clear, no distortion at edges, very comfortable and very well protected with lots of rubber armour. Trouble is they make everything appear miles away and very small.

The night vision monocular is also a very good bit of kit, at £99.99 it is a lot cheaper than other places I have checked out, a short review by a former writer for "Survival and Outdoor Techniques"

WOW! IF you are at all interested in night vision aids, and you don't yet have one (or want another!), I heartily recommend that you get yourself down to Lidl - quickly - for one of the monoculars they have on offer for £99 from TODAY . Very lightweight (454g - about 1lb in old money), compact, rubber coated, runs on 2 AA batteries, 3.1x magnification, focusable ocular and objective lenses, clear picture, excellent IR illuminator -at least to around 60 yards, the furthest I have been able to test it so far, screw thread for a tripod though you won't need one for any normal use, comes with its own carry case.

They say it is generation 1 but compared to the old Starlight scopes and IR goggles we were using 15 years ago this is wayyyyyyyy ahead. Not totally tactical as there is a dull red glow from the IR illuminator directly from the front, though I haven't yet tested from how far that is visible. There is also a green LED power-on light but you could always cover that with tape.

I haven't had any other modern devices to compare it against but for £99, to say I'm impressed is, as you might have guessed by now, a bit of an understatement! I'm tempted to go and get another ... for our son-in-law for Christmas ... maybe.
