Hi chaps and chapesses.

Has anyone tried the hazelnut bread recipe in Food for Free? I did it at a wildlife trust event last night with a bit of extra milk to give a thick drop-scone consistency, and they went down a storm. Sort of like a nutty welshcake.

I couldn't cook them fast enough to keep up with demand.

Ok, for those who might not have the same version of the book as me, the recipe is 2 parts chopped hazelnuts, 2 parts self raising flour, 1 part sugar. Cups make a decent measure. Mix together, add a beaten egg and a dash of milk. Make a stiffish dough and bake for about 50 minutes.

My variation was to add a bit more milk and use as a thick scone mix onto a hot frying pan. When it is brown each side it is cooked. It is nice both ways, but the scones are easier, and in my opinion, nicer.
