So I finally managed to get out and decided to take my 3 year old daughter with me for her first hammock experience.

We nipped to our local woods which is approximately 1 mile from our home to just set up a tarp, hang the hammock and enjoy some time out. I decided to set up next to a banking in a field on the outskirts of the woodland and the following pictures are of the rest.

Whilst I set up the tarp my daughter was takes with gathering fallen branches to use as make shift pegs.

I was trying out a new set up with my DD hammock using carabiners tied directly to the tree huggers using a marlin spike hitch as a suspension system. It worked perfectly!

Managed to get everything set up and decided to kick my shoes off and just take a moment to hang around.

Putting the suspension to the test here. 120kg of weight in the hammock and it didn't even creak!

My cheeky monkey very pleased with our adventure

And all packed up and left, no trace.

I love spending time out here with her. We have been on a few camping trips as a family but the whole aim is to get her comfortable in the outdoors and not reliant on television.

I have decided though that a 3x3 tarp may be needed as this standard DPM basha is just long enough to cover the hammock ends.

She said she didn't enjoy it as she wasn't in her own hammock, so j get to buy her one now, the only downside is she wants it to be pink!

Pink Camo tarp of course. Nice little outing for you both, worth doing again, even in all pink, Dad has to go in pink too of course

Looks good to me. My little boy (Alex -8) got a DD junior kit from Santa and loves it, already been up in the back garden. The tarp is a bit narrow to be honest, but the hammock is great. Can't wait to get out properly with him.

That's my aim too, my son uses his DD whenever he can and I'll probably sneak another hammock for my two year old when I get round to ordering my top quilt.

I've just picked up a standard DPM 3mx2.7m tarp off Ebay cheap enough as a tester. I just found today that the DPM bash I have is only 2.4m long but the DD hammock is 2.7m long. Rather not risk it getting end wetted

That's a great day out. looks like loads of fun. Get her a pink hammock. You can't do stealth camping with little children anyway, so what the heck... :D

awesome stuff.

I've been taking my hammock to the local park when taking the kids there and the spend more time messing around with the hammock than playing on the park stuff - I also like it cause I can go to the park in any weathers string my tarp and hammock up and the kids have somewhere to hid while it's raining.

I started with a homemade tarp 2.4x2.8m which I considered too small. Say hammock = 2m that left 40cm tarp over each end - not enough if the rain is coming at an angle. I've since lengthened the tarp to roughly 4.2m long which gives enough room for the hammock and a couple of kids.

I'm liking the idea of a pink hammock - I'm gonna see if I can get one for my daughter too:) , maybe even a pink tarp....

Thanks everyone. I enjoy it that much it's driven me to start a blog about our trips just to document what we do so as she grows up, hopefully it will be a nice record and rekindle her memories in years to come
