Well, June 28th 2007, I purchased a kit, threw her together in a few minutes, and did these things with her over the next 2 months;
1)skinned 5-8 red squirrel and chipmunks, one've the best field dressing blades I ever worked with. Obviously due to the fact that it was made originally for trappers and hunters.
2) Made several dozen small carvings and nick nacks while at camps.
3) Carved a very detailed cedar mask.. was not up for the challenge but the grohmann accomplished the job none the less. Next time.. my puuko will do the job.
After 2 months playing with it, I gave her as a gift to a young outdoorswoman I had been teaching outdoor skills to. She cherishes that knife still from what I hear.
As for the cold steel one.. I bought one as a gift for my girlfriend.. and like most girlfriends, it sits in her cupboard untouched
However, I played with her (the knife I mean
).. I liked the hollow grind for kitchen work, but found it useless elsewhere. Perhaps others will disagree.. but it just didn't feel strong enough to cut wood (even Indiana willow and tulip poplar).
