I want to purchase a Green River Works - Green River knife blank, due to its symettrical tang shape, but I cant find any retailers in England! So this means im gonna have to import one otherwise. I'v ordered some stuff from America before n it like triples the price of the item with the postage on top :soapbox: , especially when some [edited] goes OTT with the packaging.

Anyone out there know of any places that sell em - in ENGLAND? :banghead:

Take care with you language please. This is a family forum.

The kit knife market is growing here, but it is very, very small. I doubt we will see anything like the range or choice that the US gets for a long time, possibly never.

The following was all true last time I checked, about 8 months ago.
************************************************************************

Duty on knives coming into the UK is 8.5%

Duty is applied to the combined total of the value of the goods, and the cost of the chosen method of shipping.

VAT at 17.5% is then charged on the total.
ie. cost=((value+postage)x1.085)x1.175

Parcel Farce then makes its (argueably illegal) charge for handling.

BUT

Customs only get involved if the value of the goods is more than £18.

So, if your green river knife blade blank is less than £18, which it should be, and you can speak to the people doing the mailing rather than just order over the internet (speaking with them means you can ask them to cut down on excess packaging), I see no reason to get wound up about ordering one from the US.

Here is something to consider also. It is possible that the place that you will find in the UK to buy from will have had to pay all those charges because they bought a great big box that was worth more than £18, so have had to split those charges between the stock.

Of course, if you can find one made in Shefield, that would be best :)

Looks like I'v got some phoning around to do then.

Thanks for all the suggestions and sorry about the language - I didnt know that was propper slang......I thought it was a regional saying/word. Rules are rules though.

I got mine from Texas Knifemaker's Supply, worked out OK for me. No problems at all.
You can get all the bits you need to make the knife from one place with only one lot of P&P.

In thinking bout it, £18 might work out cheaper in the long run

Yeah but thats with handle. Unless I didnt notice a blank there?

I really wanted the blank so I could have a go at making the handle myself for the first time. Im not too bad off at the mo because il be gettin some EMA stuff, so price isnt really a concern - well not to the extreme of course.

Yeah I gave up smoking some time back because of all the family pressure and social frowning. I'm trying to save half the money I get from EMA and spend the other half :D .

So anyway I dropped this Andy bloke a PM on British Blades, so hopefully he should reply and I'l get my bade soon :) .
