Nice to see old pictures but those ones make me feel sad that such giants have gone and we'll never see their like for a thousand years or more... :(

those guys lying in the cut... that takes some guts. I dont care how strudy the thing looks that is some chunk missing from the tree. Lovely pics though. I only wish we could go back to those days. A good honest days work and you were able to provide for your family.

Very sad. Wonder if there are many like it left, if any at all?
On a lighter note imagine if the tree did fall with the blokes sat in the cut???? Would pop like squished grapes they would.

Laying in the undercut is not that big of a deal. A trees balance stability is not that affected by that unless the backside is rotten. It takes alot to bring a big tree down. I once worked on a clearcut that had 3 different gen's of tree sizes/ages. 4' diameter, 8' diameter and 25' diameter. We climbed up the stump 15' to get to the top and there it was 25' in diameter. Awesome but sad as well. The BC coast a hundred yrs ago was covered in trees like that. Their all but gone today. Those were great forests and we were fools to chop it all down.
