I've talked a bit about geocaching here over the past few months so I though I'd pass on details of a geocaching event aimed at beginners and those interested in the sport. This event will be held at Betws-y-Coed in North Wales. Details as follows:

The Coed y Myndd Forest District (part of Forestry Commission Wales)is currently one of the pioneering areas within the FC regarding the placement of geocaches on their land. They believe that Geocaching is an appropriate activity to be promoted on land managed by them, within approporiate controls, and are keen to introduce Geocaching to the wider public in partnership with the users of Geocaching.com.
To this aim they have decided to place two introduction caches, to introduce Geocaching. These caches will be linked to a Tent and Outdoor Show to be held, on the field in the centre of Betws y Coed, by Cotswold Outdoor, who are sponsoring the caches and making GPSr's available during the event. The event will run over the May Bank Holiday 29th, 30th and 31st.

For more information on the forests in the Betws y Coed area, visit http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/LUWebDocsByKey/WalesConwyNoForestGwydyrGwydyrUchaf

There was a similar event last year near Winchester run by Hampshire County Council to get newbies involved in the sport, promoting it primarily as a great way to get fit. The event was great fun - I haven't heard anything but I'm hoping they'll repeat it again this year too. :-D

The old hands camped on the site (and did a really challenging night cache - naughty! :nono: - afterwards!) 8-)
