As fungi is my specialised subject, I deliberately look out for new fungi threads. The most common reason a new thread is started is questions of identity. These need to take an entire thread because it is far from ideal to id a mushroom from photo and the opinions of other forum members is absolutely vital.

I want people to disagree with me and question what I write. I don't need to be validated, but with questions of ID second opinions are invaluble. Mycology is not a subject where mistakes are forgiven. If I have never eaten something I will say so. I don't vouch for ediblity of something without evidence and I double check the toxicology before posting. By the time chicken of the woods et al :notworthy have also vouched for the ediblity, double checked toxicology, agreed/disagreed etc, the thread is about ten posts long, so a your idea for a fungi thread will get very long very quickly.
