Fungi from Finland

I saw some absolute crackers on my recent trip and thought I would post a few shots up here :

Monster Chanterelles :

A lot of Horn of Plenty - also big

Orange (?) Birch Bolete of various sizes

More Chanterelles, Horn of Plenty, some Sheep Polypore (delicious) and another quite unusual edible that I am struggllng to ID - some kind of coral fungus perhaps?

…and lastly a haul of Lingon berries, eaten with our Salmon, uncle Ray-style.

lovely pics bud but im not sure I would be handling that coral fungi mate, pretty sure they are inedible/poisonous, would have to check though...

just had a look in me guide book... looks like its a yellow tipped coral R.formosa, or R. largentii. the first is poisonous and the second is very very similar, and stated as being 'not particularly useful for cooking'.

Looking at Philips, it looks like either Ramaria aurea (most likely) or Ramaria flava, both of which are OK. It looks like it could just be Ramaria formosa, which is mildly poisonous, but that has a yellow base, not white. My Finnish friends were sure it was a good-un. Anyway they were eating it , not me! It just goes to show the hazards of IDing obscure fungi.

it is ramaria aurea or keltahaarakas in finnish. A very good edible fungi, not poisonous.

Well...it's a leccinum for sure.

The common name "orange birch bolete" sometimes refers to L. versipelle and sometimes to L. aurantiacum. Some people class several of the orange Leccinums as one species - L. aurantiacum. But your picture doesn't look orange enough to be any of those. It looks like one of the brown leccinums.

Very nice NS, how was the Salmon or needn't I ask ?

Absolutely superb and the Lingon berries sprinkled on top really made a difference. Fish always tastes good from the fire anyway!
