Fruit ID please guys

Hi All,
I am not hundred percent sure of the fruit on this tree, I have had a look at a few books but still not sure, I think its ******* but dont want to say,

What do the experts think it is please?

Not an expert but it looks like a plum of some sorts

I would go along with plum too, possibly mirabelle or a variety of greengage such as Reine Claude.

Cherry plum, end of the year and you'll be picking hundreds of them. Makes a very tart jam.

Cherry plum by the looks. Needs sun to ripen, our local trees have already started shedding some

I should of give you guys some more info

I have not pesonally seen these to touch. I was sent the picture by a friend on his walk and he also said they had very big long like thorns on the tree,

Then could it not be a wild plum ?.. wild apple, pear & quince trees can have thorns too.

They look like what we used to call "cracks" when we were growing up as one side looks like a bum
Very sweet when they go yellow, Bitter and dry when a darker shade of green. No thorns though

Cherry plums have long thorns. The ones in my garden are yellow or bright red when ripe - on different trees. There are also dark purple varieties. I've noticed a lot of cherry plum trees loaded with fruit this year.
