Hi,

What is the best way to store a crook knife, i've cut myself twice now reaching into my bergan trying to pull it out! :)

I've tried wrapping string round the blade, but it just unravels. Any cheap suitable container out there?

I've found that the first thing to do to a frosts spoon hook is take the point off! it's useless and blooming dangerous. The second thing to do is regrind and sharpen the thing so it works

That aside, my hooked knives are kept safe with a strip of soft leather (from an old soft leather jacket I think) about 3/4" wide and 8" long. I lay the leather along the cutting edge and then wrap it round the blade point to handle. Tie it off by tucking it through. It live in my rucksack and I've never had any problems with it. Mind you, it's not a frosts but i doubt that makes a difference :)

I saw somebody with a clam shell sheath made from two bits of carved wood and a leather thong. It worked and looked quite cool.

After some discussion with Singtek we arrived at this.

A film cannister with an elastic band taped to it. Put the blade in the cannister and then hook the elastic band under the base of the handle ...

I made a cylindrical leather container with a wooden base for my hooky. It has a second cylinder as a lid, all sewn with leather thongs , with the wooden ends glue with resin glue and hald with decorative metal pins. It looks good - if oversized and holds the knife securely, along with a bit of abrasive paper!

Had the same problem got some fantastic advice from beachlover (much respect) at bushcraftliving, he showed me how to make this sheath it works great is wetformed around the blade and doesn't fall off, above is my much loved and used kellem otter.
