Howdy folks! As I mentioned in another thread, I'm making a set of Sgians for christmas presents. Well . . . here they are:

The bottom one is unfinished - the stump just above the crown needs smoothing off, the top needs tapered in towards the blade a bit and the blade needs to be glued in. The others just need a bit of cleaning up where the epoxy was applied. Smoothing off the aforementioned stumps left some of the porous core exposed so I sealed it with some more epoxy, just to prevent it smelling or harbouring germs. Since the tapering and smoothing leaves some smooth, bare patches I might do a little decorative scrimshaw.

Next is a knife I've been working on for over a year. Not because it's an amazing feat of knifemaking and artistic brilliance I wanted to get just right, but rather because I've been unable to decide how I wanted to do it. But when I got an exceptionally large bit of antler crown roll, I decided it'd do.

I'm leaving it pretty rough finished. The crown isn't going to be smoothed at all, though I might smooth out the cut edges meeting the blade just a tad. OA length is 9 1/2", with blade length being 4 1/2 long, almost 1/8" thick and 1 1/4" wide at its broadest point. The grind is somewhere between a scandi and convex . . . mainly because I'm rubbish at making a scandi grind by hand! But it's to be a bit of a chopper so that's OK with me. The crown sits in the hand well to chop across the grain!

Cheers,
Pete

Just thought I'd update with the sheath. It's for horizontal carry, with the straps being 'mystery braided' leather. The metal bits leave a bit to be desired . . . but it was my first attempt at metal accents, so oh well!
