I picked up a U1 on here a while back and it has been in my pocket pretty much ever since so I'd recommend that strongly :) Very handy little knife!

Be careful with any non locking knife as they can slam shut on your fingers. Lock knives have been known to do the same but I have never had any problems. Opinel knives are good to, but not as robust. Buck knives have a very good weight to them and are very strong. Most Opinel knives use a twist lock system but you can get ones that don't have that feature. The knife you need will all depend on it's intended use. Oh, and lock knives are legal, but as with any knife you need to have a good reason to own and carry one. Butterfly knives and flick are banned, for good reason as they have no use IMO.

Maybe i should make myself a little clearer. Im after a folder that is UK legal to carry all of the time, not just the ' i have a good reason ' time.

Yes, almost any blade can be carried within reason, ( offensive weapons excluded ), but im after a knife that i can carry on my belt and be safe in the knowledge that ,if i were to forget i had it on me, and then walked around Asda shopping, i would be ok from alegal point.

I dont want this to turn into a ' is it leagl thread ', just after a decent folder.

Cheers all

Case medium stockman,in fact most of the case range of traditional American folders are uk legal.(many were Sheffield patterns 'borrowed' by the colonials)
My current favorites are the SAK pocket pal (wood scales,1 big blade,1 little blade and no useless tools) or a case 'coke bottle' knife.(just 1 blade and burnt stag scales)
They are good enough to cut anything and are pretty unoticable in your pocket.
Failing that check out Trevor Ablet and the Little Meesters(sheffield knifemakers) or the current issue army penknife

Get a SAK Paul :) I EDC mine in a leather pouch kindly given to me by SOAR with no worries of justification, 100% legal, tried and tested.

I definitely concur on Trevor Abletts very nice and legal pocket knifes.
Not only are they pretty to look at, a pleasure to use and cheap, but they're also made by one of the few remaining pocket knife makers left in Sheffield.
You can find them here. Click Pocket Knives and go for T.W. Ablett.
I'm very often carry a Trevor Ablett in my pocket, and I've only got good to say about it.

I now carry a Nieto Exec folder from a group buy on BB. Excellent blade and the second 'blade' has proved to be unexpectedly useful! Made a small leather pouch and it's working fine.

How about an A.G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife..

http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_...sell_ultimate_pen_knife_40th_anniversary.html

Titanium handle slipjoint for 19.95$ ... which is what a tenner ?

Though may cost more to ship than the actual knife.

Thanks Jared for the link to AG Russell. I see I'm going to have to get another job; as there are 2 knives there I intend to buy(like I need another knife ;) ), about a half dozen that I really like, and about oh, 100 that I can't afford but am drooling over...sniffling sound as he wipes drool from chin...
Cheers

I'm definitely a big fan of the stockman pattern. You can get a decent one like a Case, or you can get a cheap piece of tat that you don't mind losing.

These are definatly worth considering.

Rough Rider, the top one is jigged bone and the bottom is stag antler, both genuine. Both UK EDC legal.

I called www.heinnie.com to check their stock as I wanted a Marbles slip joint. I was told that although they had stock these were better quality and better value for money. Heinnie even rated them as better quality than Case.

You wont find them on their web site as they did not want to detract from the sale of others in their range, but call and ask.

Now...the painful bit, they were both supplied and delivered for less than £20, yes both .

I did have to finnish the edges off, but are now shaving sharp and I will say that very good quality, I always have one in my EDC pouch. I did polish that awful writing off.:)

Go with the SAK.

I really think there is no point going to a lot of effort over a knife that you will not want to use for almost everything you use a knife for. It is a just in case tool, which is why you want it all time legal carry.

I am waiting for my Huntsman to arrive.

If I had a choice, I would carry my Leatherman Charge all the time, but if I could carry that all the time I am sure a decent lock knife would join it as well.
