Hi.
A few years back while digging my back garden, I found three flint tools. I stored them in a box and forgot all about them. Then a few weeks back I came across them while cleaning the room out. So I thought why not take them to the museum and get them dated. I left the tools with the people at the museum and they said it would take up to six weeks before I would get a reply. Got letter back yesterday.

I have one Mesolithic flint arrow head. 8,000 to 4,000 BC. The next one is a Mesolithic, triangular flint scraper. 8,000 to around 4,000 BC. The third one is a large flint cutting tool. It is probably from the Mesolithic or Neolithic period. 8,000 to around 2,000 BC.

Got to wait another six weeks before I can get them back. They certainly don't hurry themselves. LOL

I said to Son1 once that I couldn't help it. He replied rather promptly, "Yes you can; you choose not to! ".
That was me telt

He's right though; I really should make more of an effort to understand what I'm doing instead of just pressing keys

:lmao: excuses, excuses the computer is just a modern tool, you are hindering yourselves, imagine having the same attitude to bushcrafting, first time we use something or try a new skill we all suck but we keep at it and before we know it we're handling that tool or new skill like we were born with it, computers are just the same except techcraft

;)

imagine future bushcrafters finding computers and making replicas and learning the old ways of their forefathers before the Umerikans and Ruskies nuked the planet fighting over Ukrainian oilfields, they will suck at first then one of them will recreate a Google and Ebay simulator and they will pretend to be us, am i waffling ;)

GGTBod.....have you tried to get your mind round the convoluted and contorted mindsets that designed Windows8 ?

If I tell you that when I asked for Windows to be installed on my computer away back in the nineties that Son2 sniggered and Son1 said, and I quote, "Pretty pictures for idiots, Mum :) " suggested that Linux would be better......and then he wonders why I call him and his brother my technical reference manuals?? :D :D

Just to confuse things further, I'm now using a Mac Mini :D which is rather sweet (a hand me up from a son, so a present too  ) and it doesn't do anything like any other blasted computer I've used

I'd rather find and suss out flint tools, tbh :D

Yeah but they would look a bit silly with laptops on the ends of their spears.:)

Yeap :D :lmao:
They don't do a good job of cutting up dinner either.

On the other hand, I have used a flint that someone knapped over three thousand years ago to cut up a chicken. The edge of the flint was still sharp :)
Not many blades could last that long and still be useful.

cheers,
Toddy

Two of the three I found were well worn down. I did think about attaching the flint arrow to a shaft but I didn't want to damage it.

You're definitely right there, i've got a really sharp looking laptop made by Sharp and no matter how hard you try you can't cut up a chicken with it

Crikey!
I thought I was a Luddite with a going hatred of confusers and almost total incomprehension of confusers - but I can make photobucket work !
I would love to see photos of your finds: as a kid I found a small pierced stone that Hereford museum informed me was a small loom or fishing net weight OR a small spindle whorl. It go lost in one of our many house moves ... to my eternal regret!
You are so lucky to find three items!

Come on now, if you can embed a youtube clip of people sledging on laptops, you can get your head round Photobucket ;)

Well they've been lying around for about 6'000 years so another six weeks won't harm them ;), that's why you should always date archaeologists - they love you more the older you get.

Nice find though, always nice to find stuff that no-ones seen or touched in so long; then your holding it brings you mentally closer. Used to love tree planting after the county tractor had ploughed a hill, we used to find all sorts of stuff, some stone tools and a lot of (hopefully) dud rounds from old firing ranges. (We eventually got rid of all the old mortar rounds kicking around the van floor as we thought we may kill ourselves.)

Pictures would be good as said when you get them back.

Cheers,
GB.
