I an trying to find someone to teach a group how to flint knap in the Manchester area. If anyone can help, please, drop me a line and we can talk terms.

I know of classes in East Anglia, London, Kent, West Country and perhaps the Midlands, but none up north as of yet.

It might be an idea to see if you can contact any local archaeological groups or maybe even Manchester Uni's department as many departments do have/know a flint specialist who might be able to help.

I live in Manchester, and teach knapping, both modern, and paleo. Wee problem though. Being Manchester, Washington State, U S of A is likely no help, eh! That said, your local University should have somebody adapt at knapping. Failing that, have a look at the group I am active with web site (Puget Sound Knappers), we have many tutorials you can learn from. There are also many links to other sites. It is easier for most to have hands on teaching, but careful watching of the videos, as well as reading about the basics should get you going. If this is a small group of friends, the video, and reading should work.

There's a member of the forum , who is mustard at flint and stone knappin . His user name is a man named or called flint. Michael is his real name. Folks saw first hand his flint work at the Woolpaw meeting.
His style of guidance is a big plus , as he makes the process enjoyable. He's also very good at stone tools as these were more readily available in the local regions to our ancestral folk.
He's based in North York's.
