Flea market axe sharpened

Hello did a great find today at the flea market! Found a "viking" axe for 30 Swedish kronor! Sharpened it up right away. Any idea who made it? The "hole" in the bottom of the axe head looks sawn out but the rest looks forged.

Compared to the Gränsfors large carving axe.

From the look of the beard I suspect that's a home made adaptation. Nice axe though!

Thanks. I filed away the sharp corners above the beard and resew the broken sheath that came with it and put some leather paste on it. Now I gotta try it and perhaps make a new handle .

Made a new handle today from a piece of birch I've had indoors for 3-4 years. Not 100% done but useable. Time will tell if I like the design or not. The eye is a little different then the axes I've rehandled before. I had to widen the saw line to be able to insert the wedge!

That looks good - a little more "swell" at the end to stop it slipping out of the hand would have been my choice - but it looks good!

Yes but I wanted to keep the "sweeping" look of it so made it wider but hard to see at the pictures.
