I have used 01 tool steel for most f my knives over the past few years and never had a problem with it. Until now, that is. The flaw only came to light when the tip of the knife crumbled during its first use...
It turned out there was a hairline crack right in the middle of the 3mm bar of 01 and the crack was exactly on the cutting edge, so barely showed at all. I ended up cutting 1/2" off the end of the knife and reshaping the blade. So I now have a "new" knife to play with. Anyone had anything similar happen on one of their knives?

Aargh... can't get rid of the thumbnail now...
