Well now, Dunc has kindly sent me the "Flandi" PFK to compare to the original
Initial impressions are....surprising.
A light 6mm spine scandy ground knife....nearly a third lighter than a 3mm knife of identical dimensions is........fascinating!
Only received it today and didn't crawl in till 0 dark 30 so no chance for proper tests. I have feathered some dry wood though and the planing cut is very sweet. I wondered if the shallow bevels would make this more difficult - not so though.
I have permission to whale the snot out of it (oops - I mean subject it to rigorous testing), so I will. I think it will baton very well - better than the original since the thicker spine will offer more resistance - be intrigued to see if I "dink" the edge on some seasoned oak. I did on mine!
The drop point should bore well too - the tapers are lovely and should help that along no end.
I fancy on a little meat and veg test that pure slicing is slightly less keen than the original - but I bet edge retention and resilience will be better
All in all for all round bushcraft work I think Dunc has come up with something really interesting here
