This was my First hammock wild camping Experience in County Durham, I've always gone camping and after lurking on the forum decided to start doing it properly!

My friend had started offering wild camping at a wood up north so I took the opportunity to give it a go, and I was not disappointed, the scenery and peacefulness was amazing!

It was on the whole an exercise in getting my kit down to the level that I can rock up somewhere and camp out of my Maxpedition vulture (45lt ish) without having to fill the car like I would normally do if camping out of my car.

I failed drastically lol I knew I would but also realised for sure I'm dragging along a lot of gear I don't need, so hopefully next time Ill be a lot more streamline in the kit department.

I pitched the DD frontline hammock and 3X3 tarp in a very nice area tucked away down a little track, in a natural amphitheatre with a little brook running through it.

The last pic is my mate Gary who has been running the wood, he's a friend from scho so I took the chance to catch up with him, I think the rocket stove will be ditched from my "camping rucksack" just to heavy but great to use with an iron skillet like we did.

Absolutely smashing time, only stayed one night but I'm sure to be doing something again soon!

looks a great trip mate. very nice woods and that rocket stove looks a beast. My OCD is telling me you need some nice prussik loops on that ridgeline to take the slack out of the tarp :D

It was in cowclose wood, but I'm pretty sure they're not accepting anymore campers now!

Yeah I've not got a lot of knowledge of knots..... Something I'm going to try and improve on lol I've ordered some ENO slap straps to help with setting up, the atlas straps are the eno ones that don't stretch by the way!

The rocket stove is a DK rocket stove, very nice, absolutely bomb proof, will defo outlast me lol very heavy tho. I have an Emberlit that ill be using next time.

Here's a better pic

You won't be disappointed, place is real nice, he was saying the wood is in the doomsday book, will give you an idea of how old the place is.

Just take your own trowel in case you need a crap lol

Looks really good mate, nice pics and report. Never done the solo night in the woods, would love a go at it though. I need to drop a stone or 2 before i'd try the hammock though ;)

I wish I'd have had someone else with me over night, didn't sleep well at all, lots of noises and fox shrieks :0(

The hammock was a lot comfier than a tent but it all felt like the start of a really scary horro movie so didn't get much sleep at all! I'm a wuss I know lol

Soon those wild noises will be part of the music that lulls you to sleep. Well done and keep at it.
