First Mesolithic artefact found

Was out in the fields earlier looking for flint nodules to knapp and by pure chance saw this piece. I don't know a lot about these artefacts but I think it has been worked by a person and think it may have been an axe head??

What do you think?

Well, something's struck flakes off it. Flint's not my thing (it's rare around here), but it looks like a large core that's been plough hit a few times.

Might be an axe ? :dunno: or has a finer shaped tip been broken off (see the photo with the pen cap to the right hand side)

Old Bones or Dave Budd might have a better idea :)

Interested to hear what others have to say about it :D
