First Frogspawn

Came across my first frogspawn of the year today. Up around 445m (~1,460') on the moors in Radnorshire to the N of the Wye Valley. In a very small pool, which is also a spring. Most still the little black blob but a very view showing some development of the tail, about 3mm long.

For me Spring is sprung when the Curlew returns. Haven't heard it yet.

I saw lots of frog spawn last monday in a small pond on Castle Ring hill-fort on Cannock Chase, the pond was absolutely heaving with loads of frogs, god knows how many there were it was absolutely crawling with them.

I'm on Orkney just now and saw tadpoles today. Is that earlier than you guys?

Certainly much earlier than here; I'm right down south in the Lower Wye Valley at the end of what's been a pretty mild Winter and we're weeks away from tadpoles; the 'spawn has only been evident for a week or so.
