First attempt at leather work

Seen as fathers day is coming up I decided to stitch him a belt as his old one is getting a bit worn.

I recently purchased an awl, some saddles needles and thread. I also bought the belt blank and buckle.

So tonight I set at it trying saddle stitch for the first time. I must admit I'm happy with it for my first try but my hands are sore now. I also locked stitched the belt toggle, shaped the end and added the holes.

So here are some pictures;

And before someone says it, yes the buckle is slightly larger than the belt but that's the way I did actually want it.

nice job very clean and simple. usually the buckle is attached via the middle bar, can i ask why you attached it that way?

If you look at the buckle carefully the peg post is on the middle bar which is why I have fixedit this way

Hamish is right - Normally you'd fit the belt to the middle post with an extended hole/slot for the peg to go through. But if it works then that's ok.
