In an effort to extend the evenings into the cooler/midgier zone, SWMBO has expressed an interest in a fire pit. Her only demands are that it must look ok - not an old wheel or half a 40 gallon drum in their raw state!

I would prefer if it was cheap! I do have access to stone and can dry stone wall, so was thinking of a permanent hearth but due to the valley sides, the wind is either east or west so a movable jobby will probably be best.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks

Washing machine drum, they look ok, you could always put one in the ground a bit and there's a good chance you'd get everything you needed for free.

I had a washing machine drum in the garden of the old house, wish I'd bought it with me when we moved, ideal for burning off waste paper et al. I half filled it with house bricks so I could use it as a BBQ too.

I had an old washing machine drum the wife made me get rid of it, said it made the garden look like a rubbish tip. Good luck....

How'd do you think she'd feel about a minion?

I see you have some similar chalk artists in your family as well... my little chalk artists managed to cover the walls outside and half the patio before I confiscated the chalk.

Thankfully they've switched to planting seeds now the weather is fine, but who knows what I'll find growing in the garden this summer :)

:) chalks were bought for him by a 'helpful' aunty. I don't mind really, at least he's outside.

These photos are probably out of most of our budgets (definitely out of mine) but still a nice dream:

In the woods if possible.
I bought a perforated stainless steel waste paper basket in a local charity shop for £2.50 I think it was.

Makes a tremendous wood-gas stove, incredible how little smoke it makes when you fire it right.

I've cooked many a burger and sausages galore on it, in a Tefal wok-style non-stick frying pan.

The kettle is optional, SWMBO found it in the orchard. The neighbours must have thrown it in there some decades ago.
