Finnish pine root trot line

I just read a part of a book called Primitive skills and crafts... on google books and it has a section talking about Finnish fishing techniques. It talks of a trotline made of pine root. What I wondered is, was this line twisted into string or were pine roots just cleaned of the outer bark and then tied end to end, like the bull kelp lines of the Northwest United States? If no one has any experience or information I will just try it out.

No, It is for ice fishing.
Here is the link, the part about the lines is about 1 quarter the way down.
There is a drawing showing twisted lines but I dont know if it is accurate.

I have heard of using spruce rootlets, but not pine. I think I have the same book in my library. I have never made rootlet cordage, but I would imagine for added strength you would want to twist the roots into cordage. I would try it both ways and test the strength.
