Finnish hermits and other films from Finland

However many of these newsreels I see, I'm always struck anew by what a beautiful country Finland is, Winter and Summer :-)
 
Canoeing in Summer (1934, silent film)
  • 00:00 - 00:33. Random shots of people canoeing in Helsinki(?).
  • 00:34 - 01:05. Two men buying maps.
  • 01:06 - 01:41. People using an early gas (Primus?) stove, eating crispbread etc.
  • 01:42 - 04:07. Shots of steamships on the Vääksy canal.
  • 04:08 - 05:45. Canoeing in rapids, crossing canal locks etc.

Some nature themed Finnish Saab commercials from the bygone era, I think there's a pattern emerging....

Here's the first episode of a new Finnish web series "The Year of the Hare" (fi: Jäniksen vuosi). The series is about gold panning in Lapland. Remember to click on the English subtitles!

I wished I could go skiing in my woolen trousers and anorak with those two lovely girls in 1951. Seems so much fun and the girls are charming.
Well I guess keep on dreaming :) :)
