spent the day messing about with this, saw something similar and wanted to have a go at one myself. its specifically to make field sharpening scandi's a little easier. made up from scrap i found in the shed its not pretty, just functional. 11.5" total length with an 1" x 8" plattern. i stuck a bit of leather on the side for stropping.
basically secure an 11"x 1" wide strip of sand paper with the end clamps then adjust the tension on the paper till tight.

Interesting design.

Any chance of some pics of the support without the sandpaper on it. It looks like a 'T' section but not sure how you made it

clamps as tight as you can and tighten then adjust the tension on the platern to stretch the paper taught

Quite neat, on the side opposite the strop you could cut a recess (dado?) and epoxy a ceramic rod in there so it’s 3/4 exposed as well.
