Bit of a stitch up by me on my surveying buddy.
He was down in the water whilst I was on the bank and found this on a log.
I stuck a stick in it and asked him for a second opinion as "I had a blocked nose", he took a big sniff and almost heaved.
Here's one of dozens of Water Vole holes in the bankside grass. Heard several 'plops' during the day as they dived in the water and even watched one swimming up river.

This is an elver I caught just before it went over the edge of a weir. Nice to see these about as they're up against it at the moment.
We were also treated to a beautiful Skylark display, but it was no good trying to photograph it.
They make a lovely tune as they rise and rise and rise high into the sky before dropping down again.
