I can imagine that people might not approve of floodlit woodland as
it is gilding the lily somewhat, but ever since I saw well lit trees at
the Open Air theatre in Regent's Park as a small-ish child I've been
a fan.

Syon Park is hosting an 'enchanted woodland' over the next few
days from 5pm until 8.30 (until 3rd December), for £4 or £1 for
children, where a thousand lights will be illuminating the trees :D

Their own website is:

Cornwall...
I certainly approve...I build lots of patio's these days and often put in up-lighters for customers to shine up into their trees and shrubs at night, been to see some at night time and its stunning, really shows off the trees in a different light. But my favourite woodland light is a full moon shining through the trees......

Anything which gets people out into the woods and makes them value trees is good. Gives everyone a chance to expeience the wood in darkness in a new way, may make them change their view on woods at night got to be good thing.

Just hope the squirrels dont mind

Agreed ! was about to say the same thing :)

Just wish it was a little closer must be an amazing sight to see. Also agree with the best being moonlight. Its strange but woods lit up like that on screen look scary but when im out in a bivy its far from that more comforting if anything :bluThinki .

Not only is Syon Park doing their enchanted woodland again this year, but it seems that
plenty of other places do it also - it's just that I didn't know about it before!

Syon (across the water from Kew) has their event from 23 Nov to 9 December.
I took some really average photos last year both in the gardens as I wandered
around and in the Great Observatory (although I kept tagging it as Great
Conservatory - must get around to editing...!) which are here:
