  • Merry Christmas Guest, we hope that you have a great day wherever you are, and we're looking forward to hearing of your adventures in the New Year!
Just thought i'd mention it as it seems a bit odd that someone would claim to have taught bushcraft for years etc etc and to go under that name. Also the stuff he is selling is cheap survival gadgets that he says is the best stuff available and could give a bad impression to here?

He's selling a Water Purifying straw, which claims to be able to purify water as you suck...
It says here the straw will just stop working when it wears out. I wonder - does this mean it won't suck any more water up, or that the purifying action stops working and you end up sucking up unadulterated bog water without warning!?

Sounds a bit like voodoo magic to me.

I think those are produced by BCB, (http://www.thebunkerdirect.com/army...or_bcb_military_products_detail_846_18_78.cfm)

In fact it looks like all the stuff he is selling is.

I note that he leaves retaliatory feedback. Even threatens buyers who leave negative or neutral feedback for him:
"Follow-up by bushcraft_uk: U shall here (sic) from my solicitor shortly regarding these false accusations!"

Before I buy anything from ebay I always check the "feedback left for others" - it tells you a lot about the seller. Much more indeed than the feedback score he has himself.

If I see that the seller waits to see what feedback he has got from the buyer I am cautious. I expect that when I have paid promptly that positive feedback is left for me.

In the case of sellers who leave retaliatory feedback I avoid them completely.

This is especially unfair when it is a “power seller” who has a feedback score of , say, 1000 who is up against a buyer who has a feedback score of 10. A buyer who has a legitimate claim is put off leaving negative feedback as it would leave him with a 10% negative score.

In short you just cant trust a sellers feedback score – look at the feedback left for others.

Sorry about the rant.

Seems like an echo to me:

A Rare piece of survival kit, but a real must for those in the military or just those that camp, hike, backpack, etc.

Using this straw reduces viruses and bacteria by an amazing 96%. It can be used to suck water from a canteen or directly from the source. The column of iodine resin purifies as water draws through the straw. When they come to the end of their life they simply stop working.

Comes come with instructions and a special tube to keep it in.

Very easy to use (Simply find water and suck through this)
Capacity: 40L approx
Size: 20 x 1cm diameter(8,2 x 0.41")

PRICE: Bid above £7.99 + p&p

I wonder if they know he's using their picture too?

The straw actually is quite a good idea - it contains a resin that can remove dissolved material from water but it will really just act as a fine filter that will trap pariculates, which will eventually stop it from working when it's blocked. The idea is fine, but not sure how effective it is in practice, unless you are starting off with reasonably clean water I'd expect it to block up long before the resin was exhausted so you don't get your moneys worth - better off with sphagnum moss I reckon

Good point Anthony....and really, threatening legal action over a £24.99 item, the phone call to his solicitor would cost him more than that!!!! lol :D

I've got a couple of those straws and they are ok but you need to be able to suck pretty hard to get the water through them...they purify it with iodine in the straw as well as activated charcoal.
Much better in my humble opinion are these:

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/campingsurvival/sustcowapusy.html

You'd be better of filtering the water through a millbank bag or spag moss filter first and then using the straw but it will do about 5000 gallons compared to the other ones 40L....

Hope that's of interest to some of you :)

Bam. :D

I've had just this problem with an ebay seller. See the details in my thread "what do I do?". The guy left retaliatory feedback. How childish can you get?
Am I allowed to say who the seller is? If not I'm sure a moderator will delete this for me. He goes by the name santosoutdoors. Steer well clear of him. Another 22 people have filed negative feedback to him in the last month too.

Private Feedback
This member, santosoutdoors, has decided to make their feedback comments private.

hardly sounds like someone who is trust worthy/open or proud of their service.

Good luck with getting a good resolution.

I have heard of conmen hijacking the identity of a reputable trader. When you look at the feedback it is very good up until the last month or so and dreadful thereafter. It seems to take 1-2 months for ebay to realise all is not well.

I'm not saying that is the case here.

sorry to dredge up an old thread but i bought my frosts clipper from him and it took about 2 and a half weeks to arrive and that was after my mum emailed him saying we want it soon

This guy is a waister, I had to wait an age for stuff I ordered. It made me consider seeing if I could get the same stock in and have ago selling myself as the service would be much better  .

Ended up not knowing where to start though!

Anyways avoid!

I would guess that if Bushcraft_uk is a registered trademark then Tony will be able to get the guys ebay identity stopped no problem. If not and there is a desire to protect the use of the term, pehaps it should be as I believe thats the normal way to assert rights over a name, phrase or logo

He's Being very crafty using an underscore in his title. I don't know the legalities but he may be able to argue that BushcraftUK and Bushcraft_UK are not the same and not in breach of copyright, but lets hope he's wrong and big Tone can get Medieval on him !!

I'snt there something that means that if it can be seen as one company by the name, but it has nothing to do with it then its still copy write. I'm probably wrong, but i thought i heard something about it before. But then i could have been half asleep watching the TV again
