I was having a bimble at the weekend. I'm fortunate to live by the South Downs with plenty of Hill forts to wander around and marvel at.

You can't help but wonder at the sheer effort that went into digging a 10m deep ditch in solid chalk.

I have a mind to make some early digging implements and have a go at my own version of maiden castle. Has anyone got any examples of tools they have made from digging sticks to anter picks?

I quite often kick Molehills looking for (Neolithic) Flints and on a couple of occasions on finding one there's been a 'handy' shoulder blade from a dead sheep to use as an improvised shovel
