I have just received a knife made by Lance Ockenden (aka Driftwoodwalker) and whilst it was being made he kindly agreed to take some pictures of the knife throughout it’s production as I was interested to see the stages. I’ve reproduced some below…add in a strop by Toadflax and an incoming waterstone order from Axminster and it’s job done.

Here’s a thought for all the bladeheads out there. Having done my time with Frost Moras and the like this is my first bespoke knife and won’t be a drawer queen…remember your first one?

I decided to go for simplicity i.e. no filework, no fire steel and no sheath embellishment…Lance even moved his makers mark to the top of the sheath for me. It’s an 01 4mm drop point with black liners, Masur Birch scales and mosaic bolts...My eldest thought the latter were flowers [YODA] Hmmm, much to learn youngling[/YODA]. And the best bit? My employer has paid for it! No really!! :D

There is a catch, you have to have done 25 continuous years of service...The condition is that you have to use the money on something you can look at and say 'Work brought me that'...I couldn't email Lance quick enough! I also got £250 to spend on a swanky meal and have a one-off six month work break on the back burner :D

Stunning looking knife as always from Lance, his craftsmanship and attention to detail are superb.

My bushcrafter is a pleasure to use, I like it so much I've got a Damasteel carver being made just now, can't wait to get my grubby mitts on it :)

I said to Lance that it's exactly as I imagined it would be and he often doubled checked details with me...I'd obviously recommend his knives, and he is very well priced too. I work for Waitrose (John Lewis Partnership) BTW.

Very nice knife Mang...I look forward to seeing it at Gilwell next year.

:jacked:Speaking of Gilwell...did you know we are Bushcraft & Survival mag this month...a short write up and 2 photos.

Well it's thanks to our blade chat at the last Gilwell bushie base that I ended up with this knife! It's now the last edition of the mag we are in...thought I posted it on the Escouts Bushcraft & Nature social group...I thought the guy who wrote the piece did a brilliant job!

I've had a couple of lances knives - absolutely beautiful!!!! couldn't bring myself to use them though!!! Now I've had a thin-out I might treat myself again
