Cant wait for this, i want to try out my new sleep system, issue arctic bag inside a x large -11 bag on a thermarest which clips into/ onto a swedish army extra wide, arctic, foldable sleep mat. If I'm not toasty warm, i'll give up and take up motorsport or something instead :)

The arctic issue inside a -11 bag? Damn. My system is my arctic issue on a thermarest with a windscreen reflector underneath me, a wool blanket on top, when it finally gets delivered, inside my hunka xl. And all backpack camping as well :p I hope i dont freeze

Heh, no problem. I'll be getting like that soon if my receding hairline precedes dementia :p Dya think I'll be warm enough though, with my setup like that?

Awesome. Can't wait. I'll be trying my tarp in a new configuration as well. Not sure entirely which one yet, but with a bivvy rather than a hammock I'll be looking forward to seeing what works best. I'd try Waylands if I could understand how the thing actually works! :p

Drew kipped under a tarp on the ground last weekend and it was -8ish. Havn't seen Waylands set up but I'm sure between us all we'll sort you out with an improvised shelter of some description. Do you want to borrow a tent, just in case.

Nah, thanks for the offer though. I've got my own tent that I'm considering bringing, but if I set up my tarp how I want, I'm not how it'll be much different. I'm going to have a ground sheet plus the tarp overhead with closed sides and a front you can raise if I can manage it. That's essentially a single skinned tent, right? I know this is a matter of constant debate, whether tents are better than tarps etc, but I preferably would like to try it without.

Then again, I'm still new at this, and while I like to class myself as a sensible person, feel free to tell me if I'm being rather silly. But if not now, I ask myself, when will I learn about cold temperature camping?

Are tents better than tarps mmmmmm

Pros and cons for both, i can use either but i do prefer a tent, you'll see why on Friday ( smallest house in the world lol)

As for being silly, I dont think your being silly at all. Your set up sounds ok and your with other people so if theres any difficulties we all look after each other, thats what its all about and thats how you learn
