hello out there,
i want to invest in a decent compass,can anyone suggest one that will be worth spending my hard earned on cheers

I always go for the Silva Range myself, never let me down yet. If you want to do navigation off a map be sure to get one with a longer base plate. Some of the newer models don't have this and you might need it. Hope this helps

get yourself a silva Expedition 4. Finest compass i ever used, set ya back £25 ish tho.

I agree this (Silva exped 4) is about as good as it gets. Long base plate is really usefull!

But this is as good as it gets for me. It looks a bit OTT but the opening lid extends the base plate range to more than the Silva 4 ( I repeat really usefull for map work)
It gives you back bearings instantly, gives you slope angle and its well protected from rubbing on stuff and wiping off scales etc.Plus comes with laminated how to cards!

But then I am also currently going to buy a pocket transit compass so may not be most sane person to trust :theyareon

Go out for a short walk one day when your supposed to be fixing shelves or whatever for her.

Get hopelessly lost (round at a mates watching the telly) and return way too late to do the work.

Yup , I'll agree Silva exped 4 is what I use too. absolutely all you need in a compass.

or if you have the cash, get the 54 as it can be used as a sighting compass too.
