The Desert
Carved this one from a piece of desert willow. It was a piece of dried branch lying on the shore of the lake where I like to go fishing with the boys. Nice consistency and pleasantly colorful.

That's lovely and with a beautiful grain pattern, too. I've not tried to make a short(-ish) handled spoon like that but it might turn into my bank holiday Monday 'project' - assuming I get all my other 'jobs' done first...

humdrum_hostage, I just keep looking at the piece as I carve, turning it over and looking at it from all angles. I never draw a pattern guide on my blanks. Too constricting. I want the freedom to go where the wood and my whim leads.

Thanks, Tiley. Hoping you get to that spoon project.
