Decent solo lightweight tent advice.

My son was going to bunk with me on our Coast to Coast walk but now he's decided against that and fancy's his own tent ......... No doubt away from mine and Toby's (Collie cross) snoring

He wants to spend 60-70'ish.
Needs to be 1.5kg or below, netted and stable (No pop ups, I hate them!!)
I've been searching but choices seem limited so far.

Don't think he'd like my bivi bag.

Any recommendations?

I think you will struggle to get a tent under 1.5kg for £60-70 unless you mind second hand.

I have a Terra Nova laser which weighs around 900g, you may be able to get a second hand one for £100 or less maybe, excellent tent.

The Pro Action tent is really excellent and almost has a cult status. I've got the earlier one and have camped at 4000ft near the Wells of Dee with it.

I'm a fan of the little Vango tents, I have a couple of the older ones but I like the look of the new Banshee and Tempest. The Coleman X2's have had quite good reviews too.

The Argos one is a good price though.

At that price I can guarantee they will all go within a week - if they haven't all gone already. The older ones have fetched high prices on ebay, second-hand.

Had one of these Vangos for years, 1.9kg, and it's never let me down.

However if I was buying one now, I'd go for the newer, current version at 1.0kg looks even better (and a whole kg lighter than the Argos one!)...

I agree with Mat and Jim, the pro action tent is fantastic value for money and will take bad weather.

Pro actions are great little tents for the money, and even have room enough for your rucksack! They have just enough room to sit up and get changed too!

Just spoke to him and he's reserved a Pro Action at his local Argos.
I hate that orange, arrrh .. ... I'd soon have it covered with leaves I'll park my Shangri-La in the next valley and wear sunglases when I'm close!

Must admit I'd go for the Vango 100 but he may never use it again so can't knock him for that choice, he's a sensible lad and has a new baby boy to attended to.

Will be a good Father & Son bonding trip, I hope.

Has anyone reading done this walk? Enjoyable?

Have you seen the coleman bedrock 2 tent .It is a 2 man tent but it would be cosy for two i believe it weighs in at about 2.1 kg but the price is reasonable at £40.Not got one myself but tried a display one out in a shop and it seemed just the job.

Looks a very taut pitch. ... Nice looking tent. Even heavier mind you.

I prefer that but it only has a 1500 floor, seems low to me. Coulduse lightweight spinn fab ground sheet though and still weigh less than the Pro Action.

Low head room also, errm not sure.

I took my pro action(old model) to my recent beach camp im 6' 3'' tall and there was plenty of room for me and my kit, just used rocks instead of pegs to hold it up, it was a bit windy on the first night,and a bit of rain, never had or have had a problem with it.

Must say I prefer that colour.
