I like Opinel, simple, holds a very sharp edge, easy to sharpen and very, very cheap. I usually get mine in France but axminster sell them http://www.axminster.co.uk/default.asp?part=OP6VRN

But remember that as I found out recently on this very forum in is illegal to carry a lock knife or one longer than 3" in the UK without good reason. So I now keep it in my rucksack and use it about the house and now have Spyderco Pride in my pocket (thank for the recommendation Wayne aka The General it is a great little knife) which I got from Heinnie Haynes http://www.heinnie.com which is over 10 times the price.

You might like to check out the www.britishblades.com site. I am sure that this topic has been extensively discussed over there. You may even find something suitable in the classified adds there.

I am very partial to the Cold Steel Voyager knives, but they are about £50-70, cheaper than some, but possibly too expensive for what you want. The nice thing about the BritishBlades forums is that many people there are collectors, so you get second hand prices on mint condition knives.
