turbogirl, there are no sites as such that will tell you where to find red signals, the EA are changing things next year, and charging for the tags per stretch of water, the good point is you'll get upto 10 tags (10 nets) but they will take the money (£40) wether they grant you permission or not, and of course, granting permission does not gurantee theres crays in the area asked for, just that they are giving you permission, have been told the best place to ask is "pubs" not being a drinker though I never get in to many, luckerly I was told about the stretch I now fish, good luck with making your own drop nets, if you need anymore help or pictures, just pm me...

have since been in contact with the EA, and they have scrapped all plans to bring in a fee for the tags, so still apply for 10 tags for a full year

Thats good news! I've got my bumpf from them and the local officers number so no doubt will be a complete PIA to him shortly ;)

The details in the info sheets ref trap sizes & specifications confused me a bit- presumably they aren't applicable when you're dealing with drop nets as your design, which seem a lot better for the other critters in the environment. I have loads of other questions for the poor guy ref general defra 'keeping alive' licence and stuff locally, I hope he's a man of patience!
