Cramp Balls

Afternoon all,

Daldinia Concentrica AKA Coal Fungus/Cramp Balls. Am I right in thinking that the fine powdery almost soot like substance that forms to coat the surface are spores?

Yeah it is spores. I usually end up with a black ring around each ball after they have sat indoors for a week or two.

He he, I had about 50 of them on a shelf in the living room once and what a mess it made Once they've spored they're a lot cleaner to have about.
